Our first PowerPoint presentation

August 28, 2008

Each of us has received a topic for our presentation. Together we’re going to take our first look at all the components in a typical computer. Our purpose is:

  • Learn what we can about our assigned component.
  • Learn how to do better research on the Internet.
  • Practice using PowerPoint and doing verbal reports with PowerPoint as a guide.
  • Learn to embed audio, graphics and photos into our report.
  • Learn how to use EasyBib to create a bibliography (or as I like it: Citations) page.
  • Also use NoodleBib at www.noodletools.com

We may not be able to embed video into our slides because YouTube is blocked. If you find content that is not blocked (other video sites, podcasts you can save and load to our server (I’ll show you how), then we can use that stuff.

I’ll try to remember my passwords for Noodle so we can use it for our Citations page, but if I can’t we got EasyBib as I mentioned in the list above.

As I said, make as many slides as you need to explain your topic well, and no more than that. I’ll grade you on how well you “teach” your topic and how well you build and give your presentation. Also, remember to have “five lines of narrative for every five words on your slides,” the 5×5 rule.

If you have any questions, ask me or any of the class experts, Forrest, Josh, Max, John, and Justin. Have fun and do a good job.
